DOVA launch in Albania

In September 2012, Rights for Change and CLCI launched DOVA in Albania and hosted a DOVA assessment workshop and presentation conference.

The Center for Legal Civic Initiatives is an Albanian non-profit organization and a co-developer of DOVA. Together with Rights for Change, CLCI introduced DOVA, a human rights assessment instrument focused on domestic violence, in Albania.

Legal and psychosocial support

CLCI provides legal aid to people in need, particularly women who have experienced violence at home or elsewhere, trafficked women and women living in poverty. Support includes legal counselling, preparation of legal documents, representation in court and, where appropriate, representation before public or private institutions.

The Center’s lawyers are members of the Tirana Bar Association. CLCI also provides psychosocial support to people seeking assistance from the Center and its staff.

Monitoring, reports and civic legal initiatives

  • Monitoring justice institutions to support the enforcement of laws and sound justice practices for citizens, particularly women and girls facing gender-based violence.
  • Monitoring the implementation of laws and by-laws from the perspective of constitutional rights, freedoms and gender equality.
  • Preparing alternative and informative reports on key issues. CLCI co-authored the OMCT alternative report on implementation of the United Nations Convention against Torture.
  • Advancing civic legal initiatives to improve the legal framework and institutional practice, in cooperation with other organizations.
  • Providing public legal education so citizens can understand, exercise and protect their legal and constitutional rights.
